The popularity of organic food has grown steadily since the 1970’s. Starting in countries like the USA, Canada, Australia and the EU, it became a worldwide phenomenon. Consumer demand for organic foods in Asia is also rising partly because of the spate of food scandals and the concern for food safety.
For food to be certified organic, it has to be produced using methods that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and must not be genetically modified or processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives.
Besides organic foods, there is also an increasing demand for whole grain and high fibre products in Singapore.
Eating more whole-grains has been shown to lower the risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart diseases, diabetes and certain cancers. Whole-grains may also support weight management as they provide bulk to the diet. This promotes the feeling of fullness and helps reduce the risk of overeating.
In view of these trends, Lam Soon has initiated a range of organic and wholegrain foods. Our organic range of products is carefully sourced and certified by internationally recognized certifying bodies.
